We all want to track our progress with the sport we do. Be it with our smartwatches or the good old applications on our smartphones.
It does feel good to see that we’ve progressed, and our performance has improved.
But what about paddling specialized gear or apps? Are there any? Yes, there is – Paddle Logger. Today we’re gone have a closer look at it.
Paddle Logger is a smartphone app that requires only the phone itself and a GPS signal.
Note that it’s available also on Apple watch as an independent app.
The best thing about it is that the app doesn’t require a lengthy and complicated setup process.
It takes just a few adjustments in settings, and you’re good to go as everything is very intuitive.
Without further lengthy intros, let’s get on with the app itself.
Paddle logger setup and features
As mentioned before – the setup process is dead simple. Once the app is installed on your phone, open it up.
Immediately after that, you’ll notice the main window from which you can start your activity, access other settings, and recorded events.
Maybe you’ll find the overall design a bit boring and empty. But at the same time, it’s minimalistic and clean, plus you don’t have to access it that often while paddling.
The first thing you’ll notice is the timer.
Once you start your activity, you’ll have time to put your phone away in a water-resistant pouch before the activity begins and records data.
You can, of course, change the timer and set a limit you’re comfortable with.
In the free version, you can adjust a few more settings like vibrating or beeping when the activity starts. Plus unit measurement type.
If you want more, you can also get the PRO version and get additional features. It will cost few bucks per month or year, though.
But in our eyes, it’s well worth it.
PRO version features
If you decide to go with the PRO version, her’s what you’ll get:
- max / average speed data, and average pace
- possibility to add trip pictures
- you’ll see coastline and water in your satellite maps
- paddling session organization in folders
- ability to drop pins on the map
And without mentioned features, you’ll get these safety features as well:
- the paddler in trouble (PiT) that will send an alert if you don’t respond
- real-time map where your chosen contacts can see your location
- emergency signal to your contacts with a map of your location
We did some tests with the app, and it worked as advertised. The performance of the app was blazing fast, and the recordings were accurate, as well.
Overall this is a must-have app for any paddler that wants to track his activities. And on top of that also have some extra safety on the water with him.
If you’re going out paddling, take this excellent app with you and start recording your activities and see how you’ve improved over time.
